Ideal for creating a serene and refined atmosphere, this wall panel is perfect for a living room, bedroom, or meditation space. Its blend oftraditional technique and contemporary designmakes it a centerpiece of interior decor. Itajime is a methodof folding and pressing fabric between rigid forms, which prevents the dye from penetrating certain areas. The result is aprecise geometric or floral pattern, unique to each piece. In this panel, thecarefully executed folds and clampscreate an ethereal and harmonious floral effect, combining the precision of artisanal craftsmanship with the natural beauty of indigo.

At the top of the panel is awooden “Truth, Goodness” label—a discreet yet profound reminderof thevaluesof truth and goodnessthat inspire the work. This symbolic signature stems from a memorable encounter with a Sanskrit teacher, whose teachings ontruth, goodness, and beautyhave nourished the creative process. Here, these words become a subtle imprint, guiding the spirit of the panel and inviting contemplation.

What does the term "itajime shibori" mean?

Itajime shibori is a Japanese term that literally means “clamped between boards.” This technique involves folding and then compressing the fabric between boards before dyeing. The pattern is created by the fabric’s resistance to dye penetration while it is held in this position.

Do we always get the same pattern?

No, not exactly. Each piece is unique. While working in the vat, the fabric is handled and massaged without being able to see exactly how the pattern is developing. The final result varies depending on several factors: how the fabric was folded, the intensity of the pressure applied, and the placement of the clamps. That’s also what makes this artisanal technique so charming.
